It’s been a busy trade week. First, the Phase-One China deal was signed on Wednesday, then the United States ? Mexico ? Canada Agreement was passed through the Senate on Thursday just ahead of the beginning of the impeachment trial of President Trump. The pork industry is one of many commodities that are excited by the news.

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) Vice President Jen Sorenson is with Iowa Select Farms. We talked about the importance the Chinese trade deal will have for Iowa pork producers. Sorenson says we need to get the tariffs removed so we can take advantage of the trade deal. China is looking to buy more pork because of African Swine fever, and we can produce what they are looking for.

Sorenson says the NPPC is grateful to the Iowa leadership for the work they have done to help advance the trade deals with China, Mexico, Canada, and even Japan. That phase one deal takes effect in January as well.

USMCA is on its way to the President?s desk after it was passed by the Senate.
