The National Pork Board has launched a new campaign that features local flavors and traditions of the top pork dishes in each state.

Jenna DePerro is NPB?s director of consumer marketing. She says the campaign is called ?United States of Pork? and consumers in all 50 states were surveyed to decide which recipes surfaced to the top.

?We found there were some distinct regional dishes and things that were very iconic, or even historical for specific states,? said DePerro. ?Many pork dishes, they played a critical role actually in the regional history and helped shape some of the economies for those states. For example, the pastee and South Dakota and pepperoni rolls in West Virginia were both foods that were popular with minors actually they were considered like hand pies, and those dishes remain favorites today.?

Consumers can follow the campaign on the National Pork Board?s social media platforms and website. It features top recipes and cooking tips for common cuts of pork. DePerro says United States of Pork will lead to more excitement on the diversity of pork.

?So, whether consumers are planning a vacation or tonight’s dinner, the dishes we discovered and deploy as part of the United States of Pork campaign will really allow people to eat like a local, wherever they are,? said DePerro. ?You know, consumers might not attempt a whole hog barbecue which is North Carolina’s dish ,but most dishes can be accomplished right at home which really allows the consumer to travel through their taste buds this summer, so we hope to inspire consumers to try fun new dishes from all across the country.?

United States of Pork is underway now throughout the summer and you can follow along with the hashtag #PorkNation. For more information on Real Pork, producers can visit www.porkcheckoff.org or they can call the Producer Service Center at 800-456-7675 for assistance.
