Northey talks USDA efforts to help Iowa flooding

A few weeks ago, USDA Undersecretary and former Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey joined current Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Senator Chuck Grassley in Malvern. Emotions ran high. Undersecretary Bill Northey said he was going to work with USDA to see what can be done.

During my visit to the USDA building in Washington, I had the chance to ask what progress has been made. Northey says some programs have already started to help with cleanup efforts.

Another concern which was raised in Malvern was over stored grain. Stored grain isn?t currently covered as a qualifying loss. Northey and Senator Grassley both had stated it would take Congressional action to change it. Northey told us the House had done its part, but he wasn?t sure about the Senate.

The harsh reality is some of the land may never be the same again.
