Backed by Senate Democrats, a new plan to avoid sequester might be a viable option, according to Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey.
The plan would eliminate direct payments and invest in disaster relief, saving a net $27.5 billion.
Northey says Midwestern farmers were already planning on going without direct payments this year, and would be willing to entertain such a plan if the elimination of direct payments is for a greater good.
