AUDIO: Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey is pleased with Governor Kim Reynolds commitment to finding long-term water quality funding. Northey says the state has made tremendous progress on water quality efforts few years.

?We?re likely to see this last fall and excess of the 600,000 acres of cover crops that we had the year before. That?s 500,000 acres more than we had six or seven years ago,? Northey said.

He says predictable funding is needed.

?If we have a predictable funding source that offers even more dollars to bring in some federal and private dollars, as well as folks recognizing we?re going to continue to make progress?this is very doable,? Northey said.

Northey is still on hold from Senator Ted Cruz?s office for his USDA position confirmation.
