While diet trends and fads come and go, pork continues to be a nutrient-dense, versatile protein that can fit into a balanced diet. North Carolina pork producer Deb Balance said Pork & Partners, funded by the Pork Checkoff, distributes science-based research and resources to health professionals.

?So now I think we get to share that research,? Balance said. ?Hopefully in the future we’ll meet other health professionals, but I think that registered dietitians and nutritionists reach a whole lot more people than we think. Over 260 million a year is a lot. I think this is a great partnership.?

Through Pork & Partners, pork?s protein information is shared with thousands of consumers through registered dieticians and nutritionists.

?Three ounce serving has 23 grams of protein and protein is a big thing with people now,? Balance said. ?They’re looking at that to see what has protein, which is great because it helps maintain lean muscles and give your body strength.?

Balance said the American Heart Association deserves credit as well for declaring two pork cuts to have the Certified Heart Healthy approval.

?[The AHA] has certified the sirloin and the tenderloin as two cuts that meet their dietary requirements,? Balance said. ?I think this is great because I don’t think a lot of people know that. I think this will give them another protein that they can go to.?
