How do you feel about mandatory animal identification of your premises and the animals that move off your farm or ranch? This spurred a big discussion at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Summer Conference in Denver.

It comes down to voluntary versus mandatory.

The southern and western states oppose mandatory identification; the Midwest not as much. However, on animal disease tracking, most everyone is for some type of government program to contain the spread of disease.

Executive vice president of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association Michael Kelsey spoke with Radio Oklahoma farm broadcaster Ron Hays about the most recent NCBA meeting.
