National Pork Board promoting online hog shows as alternative

COVID-19 has caused all of us to adjust our lives for the better part of a third of a year. Since March, we have watched our favorite activities close, postpone, or cancel. This has led to disappointment for many and a feeling of unfulfillment for others who look forward to showing off their hard work. One of those areas is in livestock shows, and the National Pork Board has another alternative available.

With the closures of many county and state fairs, there are producers who are looking for ways to compete with the animals that they have worked so hard with over the past months. Some fairs are looking to alternatives for their livestock shows. You will need to check with your local or state fairs to see those options.

One alternative the National Pork Board is promoting is virtual livestock shows which allow competition of producers from coast-to-coast. John Heins is the Pork Checkoff manager of producer and state engagement. He talks about these online exhibitions. So far, they are seeing some great responses.

Heins talks about how exhibitors can sign up and get involved.
