Farmers should be receiving the U.S. Census of Agriculture in the mail soon.

USDA National Agriculture Statistics Service Statistician Greg Thessen says the agency redesigned the online form for filling out the census.

?We?ve improved the look and feel of it and the experience people have. Before it was sort of like filling out the paper form on a computer but now it knows (certain sectors of Ag),? Thessen says.

The census is sent out every five years.

?It?s used for many different purposes, from federal, state, and local governments to agribusinesses, commodity organizations and even farmers themselves can use it to benchmark for next year,? Thessen says.

Thessen says farmers have until February 5th to fill out the survey.

Completing the census is required by law.
