On Wednesday USDA announced an additional $11.8 million in funding through the Natural Resources Conservation Service?s Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program and Environmental Quality Incentives Program to help producers in 22 states deal with the drought.
Under the EQIP program, Iowa was allotted $251,100. Coupled with the $150,000 sent to Iowa August 7, the state has so far received $401,100 in EQIP funding this year due to drought.
Currently, eight states are under extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, with 14 states remaining under exceptional drought. You can see how much funding has been allotted to each state and under which program here.
Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says this additional assistance builds on a number of steps federal agencies have taken over the past several months to provide resources and flexibility in existing programs to help producers endure these hardships. He says USDA will continue to help the U.S. ag sector recover. With this additional funding – USDA has provided nearly $28 million to help in this effort.
