The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s – Economic Research Service says, “Hired farmworkers make up less than one-percent of all U.S. wage and salary workers, but they play an essential role in U.S. agriculture.”

An Iowa-based company is helping connect farmers to available, skilled labor in a timely fashion.

Three Iowa female entrepreneurs soon hope to launch Farmmee, a mobile application which “quickly connects farmers to farmers to meet their immediate needs,” says Molly Woodruff, CEO and founder of Farmmee.

“Farmmee came to be in March of 2020. Me and my partners did market research within the farming community and found there was a gap when it came to connecting farmers to farmers, in order to allow for a quick collaboration,” Woodruff says.

Farmmee helps address “immediate needs,” such as hauling grain and/or livestock, planting and harvesting.

“An example of where this would come in handy: During harvest this year, we had an individual that helps with the farm got hurt and was completely out for harvest. That caused a little bit of a backup as far as hauling grain out of the field,” Woodruff says. “With this app, we could have been able to put in a request saying we need somebody to help haul grain and then find somebody to help us.”

Farmmee also allows farmers to request a farmhand, to assist with various aspects of the farming operation, according to Woodruff.

Farmmee will soon be available to farmers and farming providers, and can be found in the Google Play Store or App Store on February 1st. For more information on Farmmee, visit www.farmmee.com.
