If meat is produced in a laboratory, from cells rather than from harvesting it from live animals, should it have the same label? The issue is now in the Missouri State Legislature with a bill that would require special labeling of lab grown or “fake meat.”
The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association is the major driver of the labeling move and Missouri is a good place to test this type of legislative action, as it has fought animal rights groups in the past and passed freedom to farm laws that attempt to protect farmers and growers from activist groups.
Would you buy lab grown meat and should it be labeled as such?
