The world?s focus has been on the G20 summit in Japan. Much of agriculture?s focus has been on trade. With President Trump and President Xi meeting, the desire to get trade talks with China back on track is strong. However, the trade team will also be in Japan to work on the bilateral agreement we need to have with the G20 hosts.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said he was going to meet with his Japanese counterparts in Osaka, during the G20 Summit.

Japan is a large market for our ag products, but the high tariffs remain.

The biggest hurdle facing the U.S. is the competition we face against Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) members.

Lighthizer says for the sake of farmers, this deal must get wrapped up.

Lighthizer is hopeful the deal can be finalized in the weeks and months to come.
