History of the Station:

KQWC Radio signed on the air on February 9,1950 as KJFJ Radio.

The call letters of KJFJ became KQWC AM and FM in 1973 when the late Glenn Olson purchased the stations.

The station has gone through several owners through the years.

The current owners of KQWC Radio are Carolyn and Doyle Becker of Riverfront Broadcasting in Yankton, South Dakota.

The same company owns KLGA and KLGZ in Algona, KWBG in Boone, KHBT in Humboldt and KOKX and WCEZ in Keokuk along with KLXS FM, KCCR AM in Pierre South Dakota and KDAM FM, KK93 FM and KYNT AM in Yankton South Dakota.

In 2014 they added an FM translator 92.9 FM, good time oldies and changed the call letters to KZWC on their AM in 2016. They are now currently streaming 24/7, with some exceptions.

Community Involvement:

For the last 67 years,KQWC has been an information source for north central Iowans with news, sports, weather,and entertainment.

KQWC has been on the scene of special remote broadcasts including the observance of Catholic Schools Week in late January with an hour long broadcast from St. Thomas Aquinas School in Webster City. KQWC Radio is co-sponsor with the All Cultures Equal Center and St.Thomas Aquinas school with a winter clothes drive held each year.

There’s news updates every Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m. with the Morning News and Information Hour with Pat Powers live and local featuring state and local news,weather, farm markets, local sports highlights, school lunch menus and Agribusiness Matters at 5:55 a.m.
