Hunger and malnutrition are always going to be issues we face. It?s just an unfortunate truth of the world we live in. However, there?s plenty we can do to mitigate that issue. To help combat malnutrition, the Kemps Giving Cow Foundation and Fareway have partnered together to donate shelf-stable milk to the Food Bank of Iowa. Kemps? Jim Tarpey said they love to support food banks across the Midwest.

Milk is one of the most requested items at food banks. Once they heard about this, Kemps decided to start the Giving Cow Foundation.

Fareway?s B.J. Van Der Linden said that, while the milk is shelf-stable and has a shelf life of about one year, he doesn?t expect it to sit around for that long since milk is always in such a high demand.

The donation includes a grand total of 46,000 cartons of milk. Michelle Book, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa, said they will be included in their 4,000 backpacks that are distributed to kids across Iowa.

Book said the need for high-quality protein is getting bigger and bigger in Iowa, so this donation will go a long way to help a lot of people.

All in all, Book said this donation is a great example of how Iowans always help other Iowans in need.
