July scorches the corn belt while precipitation is varied

Considering how challenging the rest of 2020 has been, the one thing we have not had to complain about too much is the crop conditions. Compared to the challenges 2019 brought across the middle of the country, 2020 has been relatively easy. However, that is not to say that Mother Nature is not throwing some producers a few curveballs.

Ryan Martin is an Ag meteorologist. He talks about the precipitation challenges we have seen in a few areas of the corn belt. Western Iowa is among a few locales combatting some dry conditions.

There have been a few wet areas as well. Martin says, for the most part, it has been mostly balanced. He also says that we cannot really be upset with the good start the growing season got off to.

Martin peered into his crystal ball and said to not expect a lot of relief from the heat until at least August. After that, it is still hard to say at this point.

The western parts of Iowa are hoping to get some relief from the heat stress, or at least the dryness, soon.
