Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture John Block says he agrees with President Putin in wanting to raise the retirement age in Russia, and we should do the same in the United States. As an octogenarian, he has seen major changes in lifespan in the U.S. and believes our system – to remain viable – has to change.

Mr. Block, still an owner of a hog operation in Illinois, is watching China’s dilemma with African Swine Fever and whether it may spike their prices and bring them back to the U.S. market for pork.

He also comments on a bill to revise our immigration policy for farm workers. Block concedes that it is probably dead because no one wants to compromise. He cries out again for comprehensive immigration legislation.
