The Senate Ag Committee’s farm bill passed with a 15-5 vote. Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns was one of those five Senators who voted against the farm bill.

Johanns says that, in 2011, he informed producers in his home state of a few things to expect in a new farm bill: no direct payments, and less overall farm spending, due to budgetary pressure. Speaking to a gathering of farm broadcasters on May 15, Johanns said that, based on producers’ response to his farm bill expectations, he felt the Senate Ag Committee’s farm bill went in the wrong direction.
