Japan is once again allowing all United States beef to enter their country.

It is the first time since 2003 that we have had full access to the Japanese market, due to the famous case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease that was reported on December 23, 2003.

However, Japan is not buying as much beef from the U.S. as in the past. The reason being the new Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement that does not include us, but does include Australia and Canada.

Colin Woodall, from the National Cattlemen?s Beef Association (NCBA), is overjoyed at the decision by Japan to allow unrestricted shipment of U.S. beef into the country.
