Yesterday marked the 10-year anniversary of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy, and a lot has been learned over that timeframe. We?ve seen lots of improvements, and we?ve been able to identify other areas that need to see more change. Iowa Soybean Association CEO Kirk Leeds said that, while they?ve identified their next goals, it?s also important to realize that these changes will take time to implement.

Whether it?s cover crops or even newer practices like bioreactors and saturated buffers, Leeds said we?ve come a long way in conservation practices in Iowa.

Nitrogen management is a big target for the next decade, and Leeds said it?ll be a tough battle, especially when it comes to water management.

These changes won?t just happen through the soybean industry, though- the entire ag industry will be cooperating to increase its soil and water conservation practices.

Leeds also stressed that farmers are active stewards of the land, and they want to see that land continue to thrive for the next generation of farmers.
