In a recent poll of Iowa farmers, 58% of them agreed that they need to take additional steps to protect the quality of their land. In the same poll 81% of farmers said that the climate was affecting their productivity, and 51% said they were planning to incorporate conservation practices to help alleviate the situation.

4R Plus has been promoting the benefits of nutrient stewardship and conservation practices to improve soil in Iowa. They have spread the word about the benefits these programs are having. However, if you are still skeptical, they don?t want you to just take their word for it. They invite you to hear from other Iowa producers who have already made changes.

4R Plus has launched a new social media push called, ?On the Plus Side.? It is aimed at getting farmers to share their operation?s story of how they are using the 4R Plus practices in their fields, and why protecting the soil is important to their family.

Paige Frautschy is the Iowa Agriculture Program Director for The Nature Conservancy. She explains more about the program.

By searching the hashtags #PlusSide, #4RPlus, and #Weatherproofing, farmers will be able to find information and messages to help share with their followers about the 4R Plus program and the successes it has had with Iowa crops.

4R Plus will be following the stories of four different Iowa farmers. They will share different practices in different regions of the state. They will show how different practices work, and what works in different areas of the state.

Frautschy encourages producers to work with their crop advisor and local conservation office to see what will work for them on their operation. You can learn more about the 4R Plus program by checking out their website.
