Iowans & Nebraskans bracing for more flooding on the Missouri

Iowa and Nebraska dealt with some terrible flooding over the past year. Nebraska started out with floods inside the state, before the shared border along the Missouri river all but washed away. With the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting more flooding into next spring, how are residents going to be able to cope? During the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) convention in Kansas City, MO, I caught up with Nebraska broadcaster Susan Littlefield.

With the snowpack already building in the upper Missouri basin, the need for flood control is coming once again. As Littlefield remarked, ?it all has to go somewhere.?

Susan said her travels took her into the Missouri River Valley this week. She said what she saw all these months later was still shocking.

Susan and I both remarked on the need for farmers to be aware of their mental health, and for people in their communities to be on the lookout for signs of stress.

That was Susan Littlefield, former NAFB President, of the Rural Radio Network in Nebraska.
