Agriculture has faced some unique challenges in the past year. The red meat sector is no exception. As an Iowa pork producer reflects on his tenure as Chairman of the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), he looks back at challenges faced, obstacles overcome, and a future he sees for the industry.

Conley Nelson will be stepping down after his year as Chairman of the USMEF. While we could focus on the negative forces on the Ag economy, Nelson prefers to look at some of the positives of last year. This includes the growth of existing export markets and the development of new ones.

Nelson reflects on the appreciation he has gained for U.S. agriculture. Having been immersed in the pork industry all his life, Nelson gained valuable insight into markets for beef and lamb as well. He also feels agriculture has a bright future ahead.

Conley Nelson will step down from his post at the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in November.
