Iowa Soybean Association continues to work hard for producers

As we enter the first week of the State Fair, we are reminded of the importance of advocacy and sharing the story of agriculture with consumers at these types of events. It is also critical to catch up with producers to hear their concerns at events like the Farm Progress Show, later this month in Boone. The Iowa Soybean Association knows that farmers want to know that their checkoff dollars are being used for this type of work, and they are stepping up to make sure your investments are working for you.

Pat Swanson is the District 9 Director for ISA. We recently had the chance to speak with her at their annual meeting and tour of Lock and Dam 19 in Keokuk. She talks about the work they are doing this time of year.

We are also already seeing discussions being held on next year?s Farm Bill. This is the most significant piece of Agriculture and food legislation that we have. Many stakeholders are involved in making their voices heard. The Iowa Soybean Association is making sure Iowa?s farmers are also being heard.

And as we stood near the locks at Keokuk, Swanson highlighted the river system?s importance in getting Iowa soybeans to market all over the world.

But Swanson also says that it is more than just the rivers that need help. Infrastructure starts literally at the farm gate, and a lot of it needs upgrades. The Iowa Soybean Association is working to get that funding to our state and improve our marketing position.
