This week is a busy week in the Iowa pork industry. The annual Iowa Pork Congress is in Des Moines. The event will host meetings, forums, seminars, and a trade show. On Monday the event kicked off in a big way. The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) made a $25,000 donation to Iowa Food Banks. We hear from IPPA President Gregg Hora.

The availability of these pork products is made possible through the United States Department of Agriculture?s (USDA) Market Facilitation Program (MFP). We all know the program is providing some support to livestock and grain producers who have been affected by the trade war. One of the other lesser-known but equally important parts of the program was to be able to move some of the surplus product to places like the Iowa Food Bank, who then can get the pork to people who need it.

President Gregg Hora says it is vital the IPPA shows they are there to be active in their communities and want to do what they can to help those in need.
