The planters are rolling around Iowa. The corn and soybeans are starting to get put into the ground. After 2019 forced us to plant whenever the rain let up, having the opportunity to wait for the right conditions is a blessing in itself. In a time that has been anything but normal, doing something that feels normal is the best we can hope for right now.

Audio: Full Interview with Brent Tharp of Wyffels Hybrids

Brent Tharp is a Technical Product Manager for Wyffels Hybrids. He has spent the last week in Iowa helping with plot planting and checking conditions. Tharp tells us about the conditions he has been seeing across our state.

Some farmers got a jumpstart at the beginning of April. Tharp tells us about what he is seeing in those fields. There are seeds sprouting, but a lack of growing degree units has prevented any real advantage to being in that early. However, considering the challenges we have seen because of the cold and late snow, they still weathered it well.

Tharp says Wyffels customers have been sticking with what works in their fields. Wyffels has corn that meets the needs of all producers.

With the Farm Progress Show returning to Boone, Iowa this September, Wyffels has their plot planted nearby. Tharp says they are showcasing their new stars as well as their veteran hybrids.
