Iowa late-planted crops will face disease pressure longer

The wet spring affected growers all over the corn belt. You may not believe it, but Iowa has been one of the bright spots in the Midwest, despite our battles with wet conditions and flooding. However, we still are facing some disease challenges out there.

Audio: Full interview with Bayer’s Mike Weber

With the late-planted crops, we are behind in our growing season. I have seen a variance in crops in different parts of the state. Mike Weber is a principle scientist with Bayer. He talks about the disease pressures being encountered in Iowa.

Weber says the disease pressure we normally see this time of year is right on schedule, but our corn and soybean crops are facing it at an earlier stage of maturity than is normal.

Weber says with Bayer?s Delaro herbicide you get two modes of action which work on both your corn and soybeans. You receive a curative component to stop the disease now and a preventative to help protect your crops in the future.

Weber says he will not be surprised to see standing corn still at Thanksgiving. With the need for good long-term standability, your disease prevention plans must be solid.

Also, Delaro will be effective even being applied in situations where the crops aren?t as mature as they normally will be this time of year. Weber says Delaro will help get our Iowa crops across the finish line.
