IOWA FSA reminds producers of March 15th ARC/PLC deadline

The calendar has flipped over again, and we are nearing the end of the first week in March. Before you know it, dirt will be turned all around the state of Iowa. However, the Iowa State Farm Service Agency (FSA) wants producers to remember that if they want to make changes to their Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) or Price Loss Coverage (PLC) selections for 2021, that deadline is coming up on Monday, March 15th.

Kevin McClure is the Production Adjustment Program Chief for the Iowa State FSA. He reminds farmers about the deadline and the fact that you still have certify your 2021 selections, even if you have no changes to make.

The ability to change your selections is new in the 2018 Farm Bill. It used to be that when you made your selections, you were locked in under the life of the Farm Bill.

McClure says there are no real changes to the programs in 2021, just the numbers they use to calculate the data.

For those who are considering whether they want to make a change or not, McClure explains the base differences between ARC and PLC.

With the deadline approaching, farmers need to be aware of the ways they can make their selections. Because of COVID-19 protocols, it is not as simple as going to your local FSA office. McClure runs down your options.
