Iowa Farm Bureau commodity services researcher calls President Trump?s budget ?dead on arrival.?

Trump released his budget proposal Wednesday suggesting to eliminate some 5,000 USDA jobs.

In the proposal, crop insurance could see the largest cuts at $16.2 billion over 10 years. It suggests limiting USDA?s share of crop insurance premiums to $40,000 a year per person.

?It?s like almost every administration or presidential budget in the last few decades. It?s dead on arrival the day it is released. The actual numbers in it don?t matter too much. Presidents do not do budgets. Congress does budgets,? Iowa Farm Bureau Research and Commodity Services Director, Dave Miller said.

Miller points out something very important with this budget.

?It does give insight as to what the administration is thinking and what their priorities are and types of areas where you might see amendments or challenges to expenditures or budget items down the road.?

Congress still must work out the kinks of this budget before it gets sent back to the White House.
