Iowa egg production increases for May

Iowa egg production was up for the month of May according to the United States Department of Agriculture?s National Ag Statistics Service.

Iowa produced 1.39 Billion eggs last month. This is a four percent increase over April and is three percent better than last year. Iowa still paces the nation in egg production, producing 90 percent more eggs than Ohio and Pennsylvania. Those states are number two and three, respectively, in egg production.

Iowa had 57.5 million layers, which is one percent more than April and three percent more than last May. Those layers averaged 2,411 eggs for the month.
