The Iowa Cattlemen?s Association President says the cattle industry is stable.

Iowa cattle producers met in Ames for their annual meeting Saturday.

ICA President Dr. Phil Reemtsma says the industry is in a stable place right now.

?From an industry standpoint, we?ve worked through some of the massive swings up and massive swings down in price and volatility. I think we are in more of a stable environment when you talk about the industry and I think things have moderated some.?

Reemtsma says going forward people will feel better about expanding their operation or look for ways to continue to be in business and be profitable.

?I think there are opportunities on many fronts in 2017. One of the things we have to keep in mind, is that sometime in 2017, China will begin to start accepting U.S. beef. They have already made that announcement they are going to.?

Reemtsma adds there is some opportunity from a price standpoint.

He also says he is cautiously optimistic about 2017.
