AUDIO: Rochelle Gilman, Iowa Beef Industry Council director of nutrition and health promotion

An organization working for cattle producers helps consumers prepare the perfect prime rib this holiday season.

The Iowa Beef Industry Council provides Iowa grocery retailers tips and FAQs on how to cook the perfect holiday prime rib. Rochelle Gilman, a registered dietitian, serves as director of nutrition and health promotion for the Iowa Beef Industry Council. Gilman says in addition to the tips and FAQs, the Council will run store specific promotions.

?With HyVee, in addition to the brochures, we?re providing meat thermometers,? Gilman said. ?At the meat counter, employees will handout instant read thermometers and give tips on using the thermometer – how you place it and where to place it. The best way to cook the perfect prime rib, at the perfect temperature, is by using the meat thermometer.?

Fareway Stores, Inc. is in the process of adding television monitors to their meat departments. Gilman says the Iowa Beef Industry Council will run videos on the monitors throughout the holiday season.

?We have provided video how-tos on how to cook the perfect prime rib, cool tips on how to make your own roasting rack using tin foil and a video of an Iowa producer, showing consumers how their food is being produced in Iowa,? Gilman said.

The Iowa Beef Industry Council wants to show consumers how easy it is to cook the perfect prime rib, in three simple steps, as well as help them enjoy wholesome Iowa beef products.
