Yesterday we talked about the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market with Director Kelly Foss. Today, Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig talks about the importance of farmers markets across Iowa.

Naig joined in the festivities by helping to ring one of the 200 cowbells that signified the opening of the 43rd season of the market. While this is a large-scale farmers market and impressive to see, it is also important to note that is just one of over 200 farmers markets in the state.

Naig says that these markets are a great way to support Iowa farmers and small businesses. It is also a great way for consumers to connect with vendors to learn more about where their goods are coming from.

Secretary Naig also salutes the Farmers Markets around the state and the efforts made to keep them going, no matter the size of the venue.
