India does not provide market access for United States pork products. However, a United States Meat Export Federation (USMEF) representative says India, a small, but growing market for pork imports, suggest potential for long-term growth.

Monty Brown, with USMEF, recently travelled to India. Brown travelled to India in hopes of answering, ?Is there a market for U.S. pork here??

?The answer is yes, there is. It?ll be a bit of work, but there is a market there. There?s potential,? Brown said. ?If we can cement the potential, we can generate things there. They?re buying pork now from Europe, predominantly Spain and Belgium. Canada has access. They are getting imported pork.?

While in India, Brown conducted market research and met with prospective customers. Brown talks about a couple prospective customers who showed great interest in U.S. pork products.

?We had one company wanting to buy a pork carcass, cut in three with the 10th loin removed, but included. They are happy to buy the container. We think it will suit a small exporter,? Brown said. ?We have Bigbasket. They are huge into eCommerce. They have quite a number of pork items on their website, distribution centers in 19 to 20 cities and 6.4 million users. We have great potential there.?
