The deadline for planting corn in Iowa is Friday, May 31st. Now, this doesn?t mean you cannot plant into June; it means you need to make some decisions with your county Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices regarding prevented plant acres and your crop insurance. We hear from Iowa State FSA Director Amanda De Jong.

De Jong says there are other options available for producers. Including taking a reduction in crop insurance coverage.

May 31st is also the deadline for certifying your acres for round one of the Market Facilitation Payments, and it is also the last day to apply for 2018 market assistance loans. De Jong says it is also not too early to look at your needs for 2019, as those payments are better thanks to the new Farm Bill.
