The United States Department of Agriculture expands its staff with the swearing in of Nebraska?s Secretary of Agriculture.

United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue swore in Greg Ibach as Under Secretary of Marketing and Regulatory Programs at a ceremony Monday. Secretary Perdue says the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) delightfully welcomes Ibach.

?When you come from stock like this, it?s easy to see how Greg has been so successful in Nebraska,? Secretary Perdue said. ?From trade promotions and other things, we hope and believe he?ll continue to do that from a national perspective.?

Secretary Perdue hoped to swear in Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey at Monday?s ceremony. However, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) placed a hold on Northey?s nomination last Wednesday. Secretary Perdue remains greatly frustrated about the hold.

?It?s a sad note when one senator can put a hold on a nominee, not based on anything having to do with that nominee, but another issue,? Perdue said. ?I?m not sure we have the right process in place. I respect that process. We?re going to work on getting (him) cleared, so we can have Bill Northey working for us quickly.?

Northey awaits full Senate confirmation for Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation, once Senator Cruz lifts his hold.
