House Ag Republicans realigning

The changes in control of the U.S. House of Representatives have caused high profile members to realign themselves for the coming two-year session.

The former Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, who is credited with passing the 2014 Farm Bill, is off the Ag Committee, but positioning to move back in 2021

Frank Lucas is a long, tall Okie who prides himself on his agricultural roots. Lucas is leaving the House Ag Committee with the indication there is more he can do elsewhere in the term, following passage of a new farm bill.

Lucas holds seniority on the committee. Whether he can return to leadership is unknown, but he is keeping the gate open.

This term, no Iowa Republicans are on the Ag Committee, due to disciplinary action against Representative Steve King. Cynthia Axne a new Democrat representative, from the 3rd District, has been appointed to the Agriculture Committee as Iowa?s only representative.
