African Swine Fever (ASF) has not hit the western hemisphere, but the danger is still present. We have seen the devastating effects of this disease in several parts of the world. Probably none worse than what has happened to pork production China. The National Pork Board is urging producers to redouble their efforts on biosecurity.

Dr. Lisa Becton is the Director of Swine Health Information and Research for the Pork Checkoff. She talks about the necessity of reviewing your biosecurity plans. A lot of the solutions are not very complicated and rely on common sense.

Dr. Becton says just because ASF hasn?t been found in the American continents, doesn?t mean we shouldn?t prepare now.

If producers start getting into the habit of implementing strong biosecurity practices now, it will be much easier if the worst happens.

It all comes down to being proactive. It is much better than trying to be reactive.
