Heavy snow and farm buildings

Mother Nature has been consistently blanketing the Midwest region with layers of ice and snow. We have had frigid days and warmer days. This wintery buildup can produce safety hazards and structural problems for your outbuildings.

When we think about winter, we usually think of a laundry list of chores to do. We make sure the animals are comfortable and well fed. We check to make sure we can get to the necessary buildings and equipment. We also check our generators. Katie Wontach, an extension agent from Dunn County, Wisconsin, reminds Midwest farmers to make sure their buildings are inspected too.

Wontach reminds farmers to be safety minded when removing snow. Sure, it can be light and fluffy, but it is still a lot of weight which will come sliding down.

Wontach says if it is too much for you to handle, don?t be a hero. Get some help.

Just remember we are only about a month away from Spring.
