Growth Energy protests EPA waivers to large refiners

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There has been much intrigue concerning the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has been the subject of public scorn for one reason or another. When it comes to renewable fuels and the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), Growth Energy has had enough and voiced their concerns in a letter to Pruitt.

Growth Energy, last week, condemned the EPA for granting small refinery waivers to large capacity refiners. These waivers dismiss the refiner from the blending requirements set forth in the RFS. Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says the EPA is granting these waivers ?under the cover of darkness, and without public knowledge as to who gets them.?

Skor says, ?The EPA, the U.S. government and the courts are sending the wrong message to the industry, that there are no consequences for their actions.? She cites the situation with Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) in which, ?EPA, with the blessing of the courts, let PES off the hook for more than 500 million RINS. They just went away.?

Skor says, in the letter, Growth Energy is demanding that the EPA cease handing out waivers and pausing waiver applications, until a full and transparent investigation of the waiver process can be conducted.
