GROWMARK is developing a new large-scale distribution center.

GROWMARK and Castlen Enterprises have announced significant progress on a project that will bring a new warehouse distribution center in Owensboro, Kentucky. Rick Sompel is the director of facility operations for Crop Nutrients with GROWMARK.

?Just recently GROWMARK struck a new relationship with Southern States, which gave us additional business in the southeast portion of the United States,? said Sompel. ?In an effort to demonstrate our commitment to that business, we struck a deal for the expansion of a distribution footprint in Owensboro, Kentucky with Castlen Enterprises. It will be a new 12,000-ton warehouse. We?ll store four different products and be able to receive by barge and ship out either by truck through the warehouse or direct transfer when appropriate.?

Sompel says the new state of the art facility is currently under construction and is scheduled to be operational later this fall.

?Southern States had a lease agreement in that market with another entity,? said Sompel. ?After we looked at it, we determined that given the volume that was going through that facility ? both for ourselves and that other entity ? we thought it was in our best interest to get our own footprint and our own distribution facility in that market so that we can take care of our customer needs.?

In addition to having the capability to store and blend various grades of fertilizer, the design of the operation will allow product to be unloaded from barges and loaded onto trucks at rates necessary to meet the needs of today?s customers.

GROWMARK is an agricultural cooperative serving almost 400,000 customers across North America, providing agronomy, energy, facility engineering and construction, and logistics products and services, as well as grain marketing and risk management services.
