Senator Chuck Grassley wants river system funding this year.

Grassley and other senators urge the president to prioritize river system funding in the 2019 budget.

?Inland and intercoastal waterways along with our ports are vital to the U.S. economy. These waterways serve 41 states throughout the nations as shippers and consumers depend on the waterways and its ability to move around one billion tons of cargo valued at more than $380 billion annually,? Grassley says.

The U.S. is the world?s largest agriculture exporting country. We sell one-third of our product abroad. Grassley expects President Trump to talk about rebuilding infrastructure in his State of the Union speech later this month.

?We?re writing our letter not counting on an infrastructure bill, just normal appropriations you have annually with improving infrastructure. If you did have a bill, it would enhance the opportunity to do more,? Grassley says.

Grassley says there hasn?t been a source for funding proposed for an infrastructure bill yet.
