Senator Grassley held his weekly chat with Farm Broadcasters on Tuesday morning. Trade seemed to be still the topic of most importance with so many question marks hanging over the G20 summit in Japan and with USMCA on Capitol Hill.
President Trump is going to be meeting with President Xi at the G20 summit. While there is hope the Presidents can get the Chinese trade talks back on track, Senator Grassley reminds everyone that the President cannot finalize any deals.
On the United States ? Mexico ? Canada Agreement (USMCA), Senator Grassley still feels the agreement could get through Congress before the summer recess in August. There is a negotiating team appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to talk with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to discuss House Democrat concerns on environmental and labor issues.
Senator Grassley says Speaker Pelosi has told him that she wants to ?get to a yes? on USMCA. Grassley says he and Trade Ambassador Lighthizer are confident the Speaker is sincere in motives to get the deal done.
