Last week, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at helping farmers who are suffering from the stresses of the current ag situation. It is called the Seeding Rural Resiliency Act.

The Seeding Rural Resiliency Act is aimed, ultimately, at addressing the rate of suicides in rural America. Senator Grassley talked about the measure in his weekly press conference with Ag media.

Grassley discussed how uncertainty in markets and weather, coupled with a stressful harvest season can compound issues further.

Grassley says he has received support for this bill from both sides of the aisle. He is calling on the Senate Agriculture Committee and the full Senate to act on this legislation quickly.

As of right now, there is no companion legislation in the House. Grassley is calling on his colleagues on the other side of the capitol building to work on similar measures to help with the mental health of our farming community.
