A high level White House official says an executive order to change the point of obligation under the Renewable Fuels Standard is not imminent.
Senator Chuck Grassley made his case to White House officials last week regarding the point of obligation. Rumors floated around that President Trump wanted to change who is obligated to blend fuel under the program.
“I explained why the status quo worked very good and why changing the point of obligation from refiners to blenders or retailers would be problematic given the serious of potential change and its effect on rural American and consumers everywhere,” Grassley said.
Grassley and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D- MN) recently drafted a letter explaining the importance to not change the RFS. The letter is being circulated to get more signatures.
“Probably 15 to 20 refiners have this obligation to blend and that is easy for the government and the EPA to police that we are getting the 10 percent mixture we have. A change this point in obligation to the retailer would put it on the back of every Casey’s and Kum and Go stores,” Grassley said.
He says this would also be a lot of book work for small retailers.
