It?s official, Bayer wants to by Monsanto for whopping $62 billion dollars.

Senator Chuck Grassley wonders if this merger will go through unlike last year?s proposal with Monsanto and Syngenta.

Senator Grassley says if the merger between Monsanto and Bayer goes through, he would give the same answer he did with the Dow-DuPont merger.

?Usually for sure. This isn?t just agriculture I do this frequently for anti-trust issues. I write a letter to the justice department letting them know that I am going to be right and heard to make sure that the anti-trust laws are enforced.?

Grassley says the judiciary committee usually doesn?t do this but there is always a possibility for hearings.

?If we feel there?s grassroots interests in that number one, or within the congress as a whole we feel that maybe justice is not looking thoroughly enough at the proposition.?

According to a released statement from Bayer, under the proposed transaction, the combined business would provide attractive opportunities for the employees of both companies and have its global Seeds & Traits and North American commercial headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.

Its global Crop Protection and divisional Crop Science headquarters would sit in Monheim, Germany. There would also be a presence in Durham, North Carolina, as well as many other locations throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Digital Farming for the combined business would be based near San Francisco, California.

Grassley says he trusts the justice department will see the anti-trust laws are enforced.
