Speaking to reporters in a teleconference Wednesday, Senator Chuck Grassley explained what would happen to Iowa’s economy if the Obama administration were to decline his and 14 other Senators’ request to declare a federal emergency along the Mississippi River.

In addition to the request that the White House declare an emergency, Grassley says the President has also been asked to intervene with the Army Corps of Engineers in increasing water levels from upstream.

Three state governors, 15 Senators, 62 members of the House and 18 national organizations such as the National Waterways Conference have urged President Obama to declare an emergency.
