Earlier we discussed the challenges being faced by farmers in the high Andean regions of Peru. Today, we find out about the goals of the research to be conducted there.

The goal of the research being conducted is first and foremost to help the people of the high Andes region. We hear from Ginya Truitt Nakata of the International Potato Center (CIP).

The research will also look at how agricultural productivity, environment, and nutrition will intersect and interplay with each other.

Reaching the goals isn?t just a walk in the park either. Jesus Quintana is with the International Fund for Agricultural Development. He says the people need education on agriculture, nutrition, and marketing. The people are willing to make changes, but they need the support of both the public and private sectors.

There is a long way to go in this research in the Andes mountain region. There is much to lose without the proper support and education. With those things, there is so much to be gained.
