Get your outbuildings winterized before winter

As we are now in the full-throttle mode of harvest, winter is on our minds. After seeing freezing temperatures and a few flakes in some spots in Iowa, we are working hard to have the crops harvested and the ground ready for winter. What about your farm buildings? Are they ready for the cold months? It is so much easier to take care of their needs now before the snow really flies.

There will inevitably be a few down days during harvest season. There always are. Dan Nyberg of Morton Buildings says this is the perfect time to be checking your outbuildings. There are a few simple steps to preparing them for winter.

Also, it is better to check any heating systems now, rather than finding out it won?t turn on when you need it.

Nyberg says if it is time to do repairs or replace a building, make those priority decisions now. This not only includes contractors, but also tax advisors.

It is easier to make these checks now, than when there are two feet of snow on the ground and it is six degrees below zero.
