FULL INTERVIEW: Matthew Pye, FMC Corporation

FMC says its biologicals portfolio is uniquely positioned to provide distinctive solutions either individually or through the integrated use with synthetics and crop nutrition.

Agriculture biologicals are often used in combination with synthetic crop protections products as part of integrated management programs. Biologicals can be used to improve nutrient uptake, while providing insect control, disease protection and improving yield benefits with reduced residue and environmental profiles.

Matthew Pye, biologicals subject matter expert at FMC Corporation, says the biological segment is growing both globally and in the U.S.

?By about 15% year on year,? said Pye. ?FMC is a little bit ahead of that curve globally. These products we really believe have a role in resistance management, sustainable ag, and environmental stewardship.?

Pye explains biologicals are a viable option for pest management.

?In the right setting with an IPM approach, yes, we believe they can be successful in row crops,? said Pye. ?Education is key in knowing when and how to employ biologicals to get the results you need.?

Pye talks about FMC?s progress and development in the biological segment.

?We?re playing to bring some pure play biologicals and some additional synthetic plus biological mixes to the market in the coming years,? said Pye. ?These are mainly going to target pests like nematodes and soil diseases.?

FMC Corporation’s world-class biologicals business was initially built through two strategic transactions in 2013. These include the acquisition of the Center for Agricultural and Environmental Biosolutions (CAEB) assets and the signing of a global strategic alliance with Chr. Hansen, a global bioscience company.
